FOUGERON André
Born in Belleville December 1, 1913. He formed his art education alone, taking night courses in 1927-1928. He executed small pieces of sculpture and also lithographs in color, while at the same time he completed large decorations, including one for the Sanatorium for Students at Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet ( Isère). In 1946 he was awarded the Prix National. His searchings in art follow the same lines as those of a Pignon or a Gischia, but at the Salon d'Automne of 1940 he exhibits a painting called Les Parisiennes au marché, which leans much more towards realism. This canvas is the point of departure in France for a Neo-RealisticSocialist school. And it is in this style that Fougeron continues to work.
