CALMETTES Jean-Marie
Born at Wissous (Seine-et-Oise) April 15, 1918. After secondary studies, he enrolls at the Ecole des Arts Appliqués, then at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. At that time he was doing sculpture under the direction of Wlerick ( 19351937). Calmettes shortly afterwards turns towards painting and enrolls at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts ( 1938-1939). Mobilised, he returns to Paris in 1941 and took part in the formation of the "Echelle" group, which has its first exhibition in 1943. In 1947 he is awarded the Prix Carrefour de la Jeune Peinture, the Prix Othon Friesz in 1954, and the Prix du Dôme in 1955.
